Samsung’s most recent offering – solar powered billboards.
In order to become more energy efficient and increase their scope of corporate social responsibility Samsung has partnered with Starcom and Visiria to launch a new means of mass advertising. The billboards use only renewable resources in order to generate the electricity needed to operate.
Using this technology reduces demand on electricity supplied by Eskom and furthermore lessens consumption of coal and other primary resources. Combustion of such fossil fuels is considered to be the largest contributing factor to the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
The first phase of the project will seek to introduce 30 Samsung billboards, which collectively will result in an annual saving of energy equivalent to the monthly consumption of 1080 households
This project has also generated 40 new jobs and has added significant black economic empowerment benefits to South Africa added Samsung.
