Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Internet Security 2010, Nero 9 Reloaded and Transparent Language Zulu and Afrikaans are soon to be available through local channels.
Phoenix Software distributors announced their new nationwide product line entering into Q4 2009. Notable highlights include Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Internet Security 2010, Nero 9 Reloaded, and Transparent Language Premium Edition, which currently boasts two South African language packs.
Phoenix Software will also be bringing boxed versions of AVG anti-virus and Internet Security software to retail shelves once an official announcement has been made at the end of this month.
Kaspersky 2010, in an attempt to steer away from the ‘techie’ image the software has developed, claims a new, friendlier user interface that isn’t as daunting to the average end-user. The Internet Security version has a new virtual keyboard feature which protects information such as a credit card number while the user is entering it into a website. Colour coded links now warn a user of a potentially dangerous website, but still allow a click through, rather than simply blocking the page, as in previous versions.
Other improvements include a ‘game mode’ which prevents the software from intruding into gaming sessions, when resources and attention need to be focused, and a ‘safe mode’ for running potentially harmful applications without jeopardising system integrity. Both versions should be on store shelves by the end of October.
Nero 9 Reloaded features the ability to do a full operating system backup and restoration, whereas previous versions could only backup data. All codecs are now included with the package, instead of being obtained through a separate download, and only require a once off online activation. The package is also Windows 7 certified and should be available at the end of October.
The Transparent Language software packages offer numerous language pack options, and now two South African languages are available; Afrikaans and Zulu. The products should be available by December.
Other notable releases include Sound Forge Pro 10 for the audiophiles; various iterations of Pinnacle Studio 14 which provide video editing tools covering casual home users to industry professionals; Encyclopaedia Britannica 2010; and Roxio Easy VHS to DVD conversion software for Mac and Windows, which includes a multi-function USB adaptor in the package.
