Adobe Acrobat X Extends MS Office Functionality

Apr 14th, 2011

In today’s competitive global markets, teams often work across organisational and geographic boundaries. Likewise, projects require input and approval from multiple sources in multiple formats, and from dispersed locations.

Collaboration challenges are often multiple. Scheduling conflicts often result in the use of email but this comes with its own challenges. The file formats are often incompatible, resulting in recipients being unable to open, comment and edit documents across multiple operating systems and file formats. Deployment can also be problematic. The size of email attachments are usually limited and the replication of large files can result in the usage of too much space on the mail server. Lastly, feedback tracking is a huge concern as multiple sources of comments need to be manually tracked, managed and consolidated.

Adobe Acrobat X extends the collaboration possibilities of Microsoft Office and Sharepoint by providing a proven file format that can be generated from most desktop applications and viewed and commented on using Acrobat or the free Adobe reader.

The tight Sharepoint integration means that PDF files in Sharepoint document libraries are now directly accessible in Acrobat via the ‘Open and Save’ dialog boxes, just like files on the local computer.
Acrobat X also integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Office applications through included add-ins called PDF-Makers. Users can generate high quality, standards-compliant PDF files with navigational links and initiate and Acrobat based review workflow, all without leaving the office application.

These features enable easy and fast feedback management, where comments are all automatically compiled in a single document. Reviewers can also supplement and review each other’s comments, and deadlines can be set for reviews where one is able to track who has responded and who as not.

“Acrobat with Sharepoint and Office delivers an efficient, easily deployed and more secure digital collaboration solution”, says Jeremy Matthews, MD of Dax Data.
