Business Connexion’s ACCSYS division wins Technology Top 100 Sustainability Award
[Dec 13th, 2011]

What does sustainability mean in any business? In short, it is an indication of how much of an eye the organisation has on the future. For this reason, Business Connexion’s ACCSYS division is particularly proud of being named the winner of the Sustainability Award  at the Technology Top 100 accolades held in late November.

The Technology Top 100 programme is focused on identifying South African role models who through innovation, tenacity and a passionate belief in people, have been able to take their organisations to new levels of competitiveness. The programme seeks to identify role models who are either users or developers of technology and is in its 20th year.

ACCSYS CEO Teryl Schroenn reveals that the company was a finalist in no less than three additional categories: Excellence in the Management of Technology, Excellence in the Management of Innovation and Excellence in the Management of People. “We’re delighted that we emerged as the top contender for the Sustainability category among these; sustainability is after all, described by the Awards committee as ‘the ultimate measure where the entire organisation and its management is evaluated as to its overall contribution’.”

The ACCSYS team received the award from Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor, and founder of the Technology Top 100 Professor Roy Marcus, at the annual Technology top 100 function held at The Forum in Sandton. In her speech, Pandor noted: “It is these role models [the award winners] that inspire the next generation of innovators and technology developers; the awards are an important catalyst in developing a culture of entrepreneurship.”

That culture is considered essential to support South Africa’s ‘new growth path’ plan, which she said aims to create 5 million jobs by 2020 and bring about an inclusive, labour-absorbing and efficient economy. ACCSYS provides people management solutions and falls within the Innovation Group of Business Connexion, headed by Isaac Mophatlane. “This division includes all the managed services specialist’s, internally developed and owned software and other intellectual property,” He explains.

“The award is a nod to the organisational culture of our company as a whole. Sustainability is something which drives every aspect of our business activities, as we recognise it as a fundamental necessity to assure the future of our people, our clients and partners and our organisation itself,” Mophatlane explains.

As South African’s biggest provider of managed services, evidence of Business Connexion’s eye on the future is ample and through 2011, it has made several major investments and acquisitions as it positions itself to perform in a rapidly changing information and communications technology (ICT) environment.

Mophatlane explains: “Increasingly, we’re seeing a shift towards cloud computing – the ability for companies to access and use the ICT services they need to run their operations as easily as one might access electricity or other utilities. The investments we’ve made support our ability to deliver such services – in short, we’re gearing ourselves for sustainability and performance as an ICT services provider which will remain sustainable, relevant, competitive and prosperous into the future.”
