Local mobile services company Grapevine Interactive has developed a mobile messaging product designed to inhabit the niche between SMS and MMS at less than the cost of two corporate bulk SMS messages.
According to Grapevine Interactive CTO, Cliff Court, “Mobile marketers, in particular, have been asking for a product offering more than text-only SMS but with less of the complexity and high cost of MMS.”
MMS Lite combines a notification message with a larger rich message. This rich message includes a heading of up to 500 characters of text plus two images with optional captions.
MMS Lite is a particularly relevant product for companies that want to display their brands’ logos, which is not possible with SMS and where MMS often renders poorly on the handset. Further, the approximately R0.01 cost of reply will encourage feedback from customers who no longer have to pay the cost of a reply SMS or MMS.

MMS Lite operates across all South African mobile operators and internationally on the majority of mobile handsets.
