‘Green’ drives steal the show at Securex Conference
Western digital surveillance drives reduce power usage by 40%
Drive Control Corporation and CCTV specialist company Frank Street displayed Western Digital’s most recent AV and surveillance products at 2009’s IFSEC South Africa Securex conference.
One particularly notable item was the Caviar green desktop drive. The platform is based on WD’s 333 GB/platter technology with 32 MB cache, producing capacity ranging from 500 GB to 1 TB.
“The green drives are ideal for the security surveillance industry as they enable users to proactively and effectively monitor their environments while knowing that the enabling equipment such as their desktops are still running at an eco-friendly level,” commented Vassen Naicker, WD product specialist at DCC.
The Western Digital AV-GP line of hard drives that includes 2 TB capacity which incorporates WD GreenPower Technology was also demonstrated. Designed to withstand surveillance and security markets, the WD AV-GP line of hard drives for audio and video applications reduces power consumption by up to 40% over.
“The Western Digital AV-GP 2 TB hard drive is ideal for applications such as DVRs (digital video recorders), media centres, media servers, as well as surveillance video recording that demand a higher capacity hard drive and exceptional reliability,” he added.
