Channel O to broadcast Jackson memorial service

M-Net’s two leading music channels Channel O and MK have been given the rights to simultaneously broadcast the late King of Pop’s public memorial service at Staples Center tonight at 19:00.

“It was our wish to allow as many of Michael’s fans to be part of the memorial, and we wish to thank everyone for their support and understanding at this difficult time,” said the Jackson Family in a published statement.

On Saturday 25 June the highly controversial singer collapsed at his rented mansion in Los Angeles. After numerous attempts to resuscitate him failed Jackson was later pronounced dead.

MJ broke down racial barriers and paved the way for modern pop music. He is the mastermind behind iconic hits like ‘Thriller’, ‘Beat It’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Black and White’, ‘Scream’, ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’’, ‘I Just Can’t Stop Loving You’, ‘Bad’, ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ and ‘You Are Not Alone’.

Over the course of his career – apart from  selling more than 750m albums worldwide and winning 13 Grammy awards – Jackson influenced modern acts like Justin Timberlake, Usher and Chris Brown, to mention a few.  He leaves behind a legacy where he will still be known as the King of Pop for generations to come.

Catch the simultaneous broadcast of the Michael Jackson public memorial service from Staples Center tonight at 19:00 on Channel O and MK.
