Fortinet secures first place in global UTM factory revenue

Market leader for 13th consecutive year

Fortinet, has recently announced that new IDC research data confirms that the company has again ranked number 1 in worldwide UTM factory revenue for the first quarter 2009.

This marks the 13th consecutive quarter Fortinet has secured this market position.

Says Amy Thomas, Fortinet Product Manager at Zycko, official distributor of Fortinet UTM solutions, “With increasing attention being paid to security threats at all levels of organisations, UTM technology has become an unparalleled, all-in-one solution to contend with malicious threats. Fortinet is the only vendor to deliver a comprehensive UTM offering within one solution and has shown once again that its range of security appliances is a firm favourite in meeting this demand”.

“Fortinet’s latest FortiGate firmware, FortiOS 4.0, with newly-added features such as application control, WAN optimisation, data leakage prevention and SSL inspection – raised the competitive bar and has been met with enthusiasm and adoption from our customers across all segments, fueling further demand for our industry-leading FortiGate appliances,” said Ken Xie, founder, president and CEO of Fortinet. “As evidenced by IDC’s latest numbers, Fortinet maintains its position at the leading edge of network security industry and is continuing to meet the needs of its rapidly growing global customer base.”

According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device. To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus.

All of the capabilities need not be utilised, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications, UTM appliances may also host other security or networking features.
