SA rugby team have entered into a sponsorship deal for an official Springbok cellphone

At a recent press launch, Leaf International Communications, the exclusive handset distributors of HTC smart phones in South Africa, confirmed that HTC is now the official cell phone supplier to the Springbok rugby team.

“Leaf is very pleased to have secured this high profile sponsorship and is proud to be associated with a true South African icon. We understand that South Africa is a “sports mad” country and by supporting a genre which has, to date, been neglected by the mobile handset market, we hope to increase our local and global brand exposure and awareness. Leaf is committed to development in South Africa and this is just the first of many planned initiatives to show this,” says Stephen Strachan, marketing director at Leaf.

“The sponsorship entails Leaf supplying HTC handsets to all the Springbok rugby players and their management team. Each member of the team has the opportunity to choose the latest units in the HTC range,” says Brandon Leigh, CEO of Leaf. “This is a bold move on our part – what better way to put our product to the test than by giving it to some of South Africa’s key opinion leaders. We are looking forward to receiving the team’s feedback once they have had the opportunity to use the handsets for a while, and are confident that their expectations will be exceeded.”
