Comcast launches universal caller ID

Customers can view caller information on their TVs

Comcast today announced new technologies to bring together the company’s digital cable, high-speed Internet and digital voice offerings with the launch of Universal Caller ID and a mobile application for the iPhone or iPod touch .

Triple Play customers can now view incoming caller information on their TV and computer screens with the Universal Caller ID(TM) service. The recently launched Comcast iPhone mobile application, or “app” for short, allows users to access services such as email, voicemail, movie trailers, TV listings and more.

“We are excited to launch new products that provide our Oregon and SW Washington customers with easy access to the services that they use every day while they are in their home or away,” said Curt Henninger, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Oregon & SW Washington Region. “New features like Universal Caller ID and our iPhone app are just more ways of providing our customers with more value at no extra cost.”

Universal Caller ID will be available to some Triple Play customers as early as Tuesday, August 4th, and will roll out across the market over the next week.

The Universal Caller ID feature displays the caller’s name and phone number on a pop-up banner on the TV or computer screen, and the customer can answer the phone or select “exit” and go back to their favourite TV show or online activity.
