Local distributor launches Window 7 pilot site
Comztek has access to final build Windows 7
South African technology distributor, Comztek, has gone live as the first partner pilot site in the country for Windows 7 and has been running its mission critical IT operations on the operating system since 01 September 2009.
“Rollout of the volume license key from Microsoft began at Comztek in mid-August and we were excited to have completed this upgrade to the more than 160 members of our staff in time for the 01 September ‘go live’ date,” says David Caygill, business unit director, at Comztek.
Despite some of the staff already using Windows 7 Release Candidate 1, Comztek made the decision to approach Microsoft about becoming a partner pilot site, upgrading all staff to Windows 7 prior to the general availability of Windows 7.
Colin Erasmus, who heads the Windows business at Microsoft SA, said the support of partners like Comztek would be key to the commercial success of Windows 7, which has been well received by early adopters locally and across the world.
“Listening to our partners and customers has been fundamental to the development of Windows 7,” said Erasmus. “We have more partner support than we’ve ever had for an operating system. Thanks to the efforts of partners, this system has hit the quality and compatibility bar for enterprises to start putting it through its paces and testing in earnest.”
