Nokia sponsors Afrikaans music

Company announces sponsorship of Afrikaans music event

Nokia today announced its sponsorship of the 5th Rapport Vonk Afrikaanse Musiektokennings to be held on the 26th of October 2009.

The sponsorship, which sees Nokia as the only Platinum sponsor at the event, follows shortly after the launch of the Nokia Comes with Music service, a service which enables consumers using Comes With Music devices to download an unlimited amount of music from a catalogue of five million songs for a period of twelve months.

“We are excited to be involved in such a prestigious event and to be supporting local Afrikaans music,” says Jake Larsen, Nokia’s Head of Music for Middle East and Africa. “With Nokia’s recent move into digital music led by the launch of the Nokia Music Store earlier this year, and now Comes with Music, we are providing a channel for South Africans to digitally access a variety of South African and international artists ranging from Karen Zoid to Kurt Darren and many others.”

“There is a wealth of talent in South Africa and we are committed to supporting local acts by developing services such as Comes with Music to broaden exposure for these artists’ music and supporting local music awards such as the Rapport Vonk Musiektoekenings,” he concludes.
