MTN and Motorola to Optimize Network Performance

Motorola Services to optimize entire MTN Rwanda 2G in an MTN Initiative to continue to improve call quality and enhance customer experience

The Home & Networks Mobility business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced it has signed a new three-year network optimization contract with MTN Rwanda. Motorola will provide its multi-vendor intelligent optimization service (MVIOS) to optimize MTN’s entire radio access network.

The optimization service will be deployed in co-operation with MTN Rwanda to meet improved key performance indicators (KPIs) across its serving area. The agreement will further help improve the operators’ customer service levels and bring about efficient management of its infrastructure over the next several years.

Eric Pradier, vice president, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility Services, EMEA and Asia Pacific said, “Motorola’s optimization service will accelerate improvements in the quality of MTN’s end customer experience. Our services have been designed to improve performance in multi-vendor, multi-technology environments to ensure that networks operate at a peak performance level.”

This contract is a strong endorsement of the proven value which Motorola’s optimization services can bring to a network operator, both in the reduction in operating costs and in the continuity and availability of best in class resources. It adds to the list of similar wins Motorola has achieved across the MTN group in Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda.

“This contract is a testament to our longstanding relationship with the MTN group and further reinforces our commitment to Africa,” said Ali Amer, vice president, Middle East, Africa and Pakistan, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “Motorola has been operating in Africa for more than 40 years and will continue to advance the way Africa connects.”

MTN Rwanda currently has more than 1.7 million subscribers and is experiencing exponential subscriber growth year on year.

MTN Rwanda CTO, Rami Farah said that considering the competitive telecommunications landscape in which his company operates, consistently delivering the best customer experience is the one factor that will guarantee a telco’s continued success. “So, in striving to provide our customers with the best possible user experience, we have joined forces with Motorola to optimize our current resources and investments,” he added.

Motorola MVIOS is a comprehensive mix of expert resource, market-leading analytical tools and a proven optimization methodology for achieving measurable improvement results for networks in a single or multi-vendor environment.  It will enable MTN Rwanda to continue to deliver high quality service and satisfy its increasing demands for new value added services.

Motorola’s unique service utilizes data generated by network subscribers as they use their phones which is processed and analyzed turning every user of the network into a part of a very large virtual ‘drive-test’ team. Combining the best features of traditional optimization with state-of-the-art user-generated data analysis, this process allows a consistent and repeatable approach to network optimization, irrespective of the network equipment vendors involved. The service has been tailored to deliver a cost-effective benchmarking, auditing and optimization of the network to provide optimal network performance and subscriber experience where needed and as the network evolves.
