Nashua Mobile to treat underprivileged kids

Nashua Mobile treated 20 children from Soweto who suffers from serious illnesses to the Pinocchio pantomime at The Nelson Mandela Theatre in Johannesburg this holiday to bring some festive cheer to their lives.

All 20 children reside at the Mapetla Day Care Crèche, which is an extension of the Paediatric Ward of the Soweto Hospice. The children and four of their minders were taken in two groups (on 28 November and 12 December) to see this year’s festive season show from Janice Honeyman, South Africa’s pantomime queen.

This outing builds on Nashua Mobile’s existing relationship with the Soweto Hospice in Diepkloof. Mapetla Crèche caters for children suffering from serious illnesses like HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. Mapetla also offers regular tuberculosis testing and vaccinations for polio and measles.

“We have had a long affiliation with the Hospice and have always been moved by the bravery that these kids show in the face of terrible adversity. The children have had to endure unthinkable pain in their short lives, so we want to put a smile on their faces and help them create a wonderful memory this festive season,” says Teresa Badenhorst, Director of Human Resources at Nashua Mobile.
