Give us a World Cup 2010 Cheer
Don’t sit on the sidelines during the world’s most popular sporting event. Even if you can’t be at a game you can still support you soccer team and your favourite players by participating in Ericsson’s Big Cheer.
“All around the globe there are soccer fanatics who wish they could cheer their team to victory during this global sporting spectacular. What if there was a way for them to have their cheers reach their soccer heroes?” says Lars Lindén, Head of Ericsson Region sub-Saharan Africa. “Ericsson makes it easy and fun to join in the excitement through the intelligent use of technology, an innovative way of gathering and presenting the world’s cheers and of course, true global sporting spirit.”
How does it work?
With the soccer festivities underway, the campaign has kicked off, engaging soccer fans across the world. Fans can send ‘cheers’ for their teams via SMS, Twitter or through the Ericsson Big Cheer Web site. The cheers will be printed as confetti in Ericsson colors, on environmentally friendly paper, and collected in a spectacular glass cube located in Stockholm.
The action of printing the messages is recorded, and the 24/7 live-feed view of the glass cube can be followed on the Big Cheer web site. The cheer senders will receive a notification regarding the time their messages are printed including a link to the clip so that they can easily share the video in their social network.
Cheer as often as you like. View your cheers and those sent in by soccer fans from around the world. Discover which teams and players have the most loyal and passionate fans and of course, join the global soccer conversation.
The project will run throughout the duration of this soccer spectacular, which runs from June 11 to July 11 and after the games, the cheers collected in the glass cube will be delivered to the participating soccer teams locally.
How to send a cheer
There are three ways to send a Cheer and join the conversation:
• SMS – max. 160 characters have to be sent to the number 44 762 481 00 00 (no + sign or other prefix is needed). The number works in all countries. The cost of the SMS is the text message fee as per local operator contract. (Example: “Go Team Go!”)
• Twitter – participate in the Big Cheer by adding #bigcheer to the tweet. (Example: “Go Team Go! #bigcheer”).
• Web site – www.bigcheer.com
“With the Big Cheer, we enable people all over the world to show their support for those who are about to do something extraordinary and to share that support with everyone,” concludes Lindén.
