Samsung launches new 3D Smart TV line at Africa Forum 2011

An evolution of TV combined with smart content and accessibility, the Samsung Smart TV.

Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest flat-screen TV maker, today released a new line of Full HD 3D televisions, epitomised by easy access to rich, interactive content via TV applications – the Samsung Smart TV.

“The launch of this range of Smart TVs is sure to catapult Samsung into a new dimension of interactive consumer entertainment and certainly it aligns well to our current market objectives of increasing market share and bringing to the consumer what is expected of technology today.” according to Corrie Labuschagne, Product and marketing manager for TVs at Samsung

This new line of TVs features a “Smart Hub” interface that enables viewers to use social networking services and search online portals. With such Smart applications integrated into TV viewing, consumers can watch their favourite programs on TV and in 3D, play their favourite games and surf the Internet using touch screen remote control, watch YouTube, and of course, chat with friends and check updates on Facebook, Twitter and other social sites.

Additionally, by using ‘Smart Hub’ technology users can easily find movie and music files saved in nearby digital devices such as mobile phones or desktop computers and access them accordingly.

“This year Samsung expects to sell 12 million Smart TVs globally and with this all new line up of LED TV’s – that come in 46-inch, 55-inch and 60-inch models – we are sure that this is certainly a very realistic goal, especially if we consider that last year Samsung claimed more than half of the 3D TV market in the U.S. (62.9%) and Europe (56.4%), and expect sales of its flat-screen TVs to reach between 45 and 50 million units this year of which 10 million are 3D TVs,” continues Labuschagne.

Samsung also plans to launch a “3D Video-on-Demand service” allowing viewers to gain access to Full HD 3D versions of around 50 3D videos. Through this and other innovations across the Smart TV range, Samsung are expect an increase in the uptake of these Smart 3D TVs – those that are smarter than the standard flatscreen and provide the user with a virtual, interactive experience.

“The launch of these TVs are evident of Samsung’s ability to innovate,” concludes Labuschagne.
