Samsung – Proud Sponsors of the Table of Peace and Unity
Samsung South Africa is proud to sponsor this year’s Table of Peace and Unity – a landmark event for celebrating peace and goodwill in South Africa.
“Making a difference is only something that can be achieved when we work together – and the Table of Peace and Unity is a real reflection of how dedicated South Africans are to this cause in our country,” says George Ferreira, Vice President and COO of Samsung Electronics Africa. “As a globally responsible corporate citizen, one focused on continuously building South Africa, Samsung South Africa, is proud to sponsor this event, where we are able to stand towards a better future for all.”
The Table of Peace and Unity
Created with the vision of a single table, the Table of Peace and Unity is an annual luncheon where 700 South Africans, from all walks of life, share food and show the country that a truly unified nation holds the power to make a real difference. Hosted on a national landmark, Table Mountain, the event is an incredible undertaking and could not be made possible without the commitment of all interested parties to provide an opportunity for all South Africans to come together and focus on a safe future benefiting South Africa’s children. 100% of all the funds raised from the ticket sales and auction at the event is given up to charitable organisations that focus on the needs of vulnerable children. To date, the Table of Peace and Unity has raised over R12-million.
A better future for all
“In line with our global initiative – Hope for Children – Samsung has taken the decision to focus strongly on education locally, and through the Samsung Engineering Academy and our recently launched Solar Powered Internet School, our goal is to create an environment that will facilitate learning for whole communities in remote areas that otherwise don’t have access to education tools or Internet connectivity,” adds Ferreira. “All the projects locally and internationally have a common theme – to make a meaningful contribution utilising our skills, technology and products in our outreach to empower young people to learn, create and collaborate in an effort to improve our communities.”
This project marks Samsung’s second initiative this year aimed at creating a platform of peace in South Africa – in April 2012 the Company developed an application in conjunction with Tracker, as part of the SHOUT SA campaign, to assist in making South Africa a safer place for all. The SHOUT app includes features such as SOS, Crime Search and Hotspot Notification – all aimed at empowering the mobile user with the tools to not only keep safe, but to fight crime.
Samsung South Africa is proud to be a part of this day as it benefits the community in such a meaningful way. We are dedicated to making products that inspire passion and, through innovation, create a better tomorrow for all. We view our sponsorship of the Table of Peace and Unity as a natural extension of this spirit in South Africa,” concludes Ferreira.
