Africa’s IT industry comes together in the Mother City at the IT Infrastructure Africa Summit – Day one
The 2nd annual IT Infrastructure Africa Summit kicked off this morning at the Westin Hotel in Cape Town. The summit will run from 12 to 13 July 2012 and is produced by international business-to-business conferencing company, Kinetic Events. The summit features a comprehensive and cutting edge conference agenda focused on developing world class infrastructure.
With the spotlight on enterprise IT Infrastructure challenges and how these challenges can be overcome; the summit aims to provide guidance through innovation, alignment of business with technology and the positive influence of active government participation.
The ITI Africa Summit was officially opened by Matile Malimabe the CIO, Department of Science and Technology. The anticipated 2-day summit is moderated by ClearSpace Consulting’s Director, Derrick Plank.
The first keynote was presented by Dr. Jasper Horrell, General Manager of Science Computing and Innovation for SKA South Africa, providing invaluable insight into driving innovation in Africa with a topical case study on the Square Kilometre Array project.
Darryl Thwaits, CIO of Tiger Brands will place the spotlight on cloud computing strategies in a must-attend keynote entitled ‘practical stepping stones to developing a cloud strategy’. Attendees can look forward to a topical debate and presentation by Terry White, Research Director for CXO Advisor. Terry will lead the delegation focusing on IT infrastructure projects and business aligned approaches to project prioritisation.
SEACOM’s Head of Business Development, Aiden Baigrie is set to address modern cloud, bandwidth and infrastructure within the enterprise to improve overall business processes and productivity.
Day one is set to far exceed expectations with a progressive agenda of workshop sessions. Leading solution provider workshop sessions will feature the innovative Dell/Intel collaboration, T-Systems, TE Connectivity and Veeam Software. Dell/Intel will present a topical workshop addressing the line between business and IT strategies empowering a highly agile workforce to collaborate on innovations.
Delegates will gain invaluable knowledge as T-Systems presents a must-attend workshop focusing on applying cloud computing principles to enterprise infrastructure. TE Connectivity will address physical infrastructure trends in the enterprise and data centre environments.
Veeam Software will feature their innovative cutting edge strategies in realising the promise of virtualization through progressive solution providers and thinking outside of the norm.
The highly anticipated panel session of day one will feature industry thought leaders including Joseph Lebooa – Councillor, ICASA; Bulelani Didiza – CIO, Department of Transport; Daniel Mashao – CTO, SITA; Douglas Gelderbloem – Manager: ICT Infrastructure, City of Cape Town; Matile Malimabe – CIO, Department of Science and Technology; Lemmy Chappie – CIO, Gauteng Department of Finance and GITOC Chairperson; and Kiruben Pillay – CTO, Broadband Infraco. The panel discussion will prompt topical debate on leveraging IT efficiency for the state to improve service delivery to clients within an IT driven economy.
