IT Infrastructure Africa Summit comes to a close as Africa’s IT industry converge for enterprise infrastructure improvements – Day Two

Day one of the anticipated 2nd annual IT Infrastructure Africa Summit opened at the Westin Hotel in Cape Town yesterday. The summit, being held from 12 to 13 July 2012 is produced by international business-to-business conferencing company, Kinetic Events. Day one of the ITI Africa Summit was officially opened by Matile Malimabe the CIO, Department of Science and Technology and moderated by ClearSpace Consulting’s Director, Derrick Plank.

Day two of the summit is well underway, kick starting with a topical keynote session led by industry giant Rael Lissoos, Director of Magnolia Wireless and Viko. Rael led an expert-keynote session focusing on bringing voice and data to communities.

Abraham Mahlangu, acting CIO for the City of Johannesburg will tackle industry challenges and evolving threats around data infrastructure.

Attendees can look forward to a topical keynote session led by Tiger Wheel and Tyre’s Group IT Executive, Melody Fourie placing the spotlight on mobility solutions for the enterprise, future trends and technologies to improve overall business infrastructure models.

The esteemed CIO of I-Net Bridge will provide invaluable knowledge to attendees in a case study focusing on the art of defining an IT infrastructure strategy which aligns business with the enterprise strategy.

Lemmy Chappie, CIO for the Gauteng Department of Finance and GITOC Chairperson is set to address industry peer concerns of developing sustainable ICT infrastructure for the enterprise.

Research Group Leader for the CSIR Meraka Institute; Karel Matthee will present an interactive keynote focusing on local wireless mesh networks and the alternative telecommunication infrastructure for the rural areas of Africa.

Jenny McKinnell, Executive Director for the Cape Information Technology Initiative has prepared a topical session set to focus on how a design thinking approach can assist IT drive innovation for the enterprise with an interesting overview of the findings of a joint UCT GSB and Cape IT Initiative research project.

Summit moderator, Derrick Plank, Director of ClearSpace Consulting will present the last keynote of the day focused on today’s rapidly changing IT landscape with a sophisticated view in performance monitoring for the enterprise.

The highly anticipated panel session concluding day two of the ITI Africa Summit features industry thought leaders including Melody Fourie – Group IT Executive, Tiger Wheel and Tyre; Melanie Burke – CEO, MAB and Associates; Michael Twum-Darko – Independent ICT Consultant; Jenny McKinnell – Executive Director, Cape IT Initiative (CITI); and Lloyd Jones – Executive Manager Projects, Eskom – Group IT. Day two of the summit will close with a topical discussion placing the spotlight on next generation networks and embracing new innovative technologies for the enterprise.
