DCC introduces the WD Red Drive for small business and home NAS Devices

Drive Control Corporation (DCC) is now stocking Western Digital (WD) Red Network Attached Storage (NAS) hard drives in 1, 2 and 3 Terabyte (TB) capacities. Compatibility-tested and optimised for power and performance, the affordable and reliable WD Red Drive is suitable for small businesses and home users.

The WD Red Drive is designed for NAS systems that have one to five drive bays and was designed and extensively tested for compatibility with the demanding system requirements of the unique always-on operating environment of home and small business NAS systems.

The WD Red Drive offers enhanced reliability with a 35% MTBF (mean time between failures) improvement over standard desktop drives and is designed and manufactured to be a more reliable hard drive for NAS solutions. The drives feature 3D Active Balance Plus, an enhanced dual-plane balance control technology that also improves performance and reliability.

Featuring NASware technology, an advanced firmware technology that further improves reliability and performance, customer downtime is reduced and the integration process simplified, addressing the requirements of NAS and RAID environments. WDs Red hard drives offer affordable, reliable and compatible storage that reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO).

Features include streaming support, which means NASware-provided compatibility with ATA streaming for AV storage applications such as Windows Media Centre. SMART Command Transport (SCT) support that measures and monitors drive performance via SMART command set, as well a power management support that enables optimised power usage and BIC Performance for reduced acoustics.

WD Red NAS hard drives are energy efficient, with a cooler operating temperature, reducing the user’s electricity consumption and carbon footprint, resulting in reduced energy costs.

“The Red Drive compares favourably with other drives used in conjunction with NAS storage devices in terms of cost, reliability and efficiency. As Internet-based entertainment and digital media usage grows, so does the demand for an effective NAS solution for both home users and businesses. WDs Red hard drives offer the lowest power consumption, top rate throughput performance, improved vibration characteristics and are certification for over 100 NAS devices. With this kind of impressive capacity, WDs Red hard drives slot competitively and instantaneously into the market,” says Richard Makwela, Western Digital Product Specialist at DCC.

Premium support is offered exclusively to WDs Red hard drive customers and entails a free, dedicated 24/7 support line to ensure technical help whenever it is needed. WDs Red hard drives are also backed by longer warranty coverage with an extended three year limited warranty for greater peace of mind.

WDs Red NAS hard drives are available from selected retailers at a recommended retail price of R1099.00 including V.A.T for the 1TB WD10EFRX, R1399.00 inclusive of V.A.T for the 2TB WD20EFRX and R1799.00 inclusive of V.A.T for the 3TB WD30EFRX.
