Canon partners to capitalise on mobile working trend with new ultra-compact portable scanner

Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, is helping its partners to maximise sales in the fast-growing market of portable scanners with the launch of the imageFORMULA P-208, a compact, light-weight USB-powered solution formobile workers and home users. Together with Canon’s imageFORMULA P-215, the industry’s fastest USB-powered portable scanner, the new ultra-slim P-208 device, with its ten-sheet Automatic Document Feeder and double-sided scanning, will allow partners to meet mobile workers’ growing demand for convenient and powerful ad-hoc scanning on the move, in the office or at home.

According to Schaan Christie, Business developmentmanager (high volume scanner) at Canon South Africa, “Our popular imageFORMULA P-215 has helped Canon’s channel partners establish the market for high-quality, high-performance document capture on the go. With the new imageFORMULA P-208, partners will be able to strengthen their market proposition and convert the growing demand for ultra-compact and powerful portable scanners into sales.”

Ultra-slim1 and weighing only 600g, the imageFORMULA P-208 will allow channel partners to offer a compelling and competitive solution. It offers premium scan features including duplex scanning, automatic document feeding, deskew, auto page size detection, double feed detection and skip blank page. The device is powered by a simple USB connection to a Mac or Windows computer, and with a selected “auto-run” feature there is no need to install any drivers or software.

The new imageFORMULA P-208 adds to channel partners’ range of mobile and cloud-connected document capturing solutions from Canon that includes: CaptureOnTouch Mobile, a free app for Apple iOS and Android OS devices enabling direct scanning and sharing documents to cloud applications; the ultra-compact imageFORMULA DR-C125W desktop scanner with integrated Wi-Fi; and the Canon Wi-Fi Unit WU10, an optional Wi-Fi and power supply accessory forCanon’s portable scanners.

Partners can also increase revenue by offering the imageFORMULA P-208 together with Canon’s new Wi-Fi Unit WU10; it extends the scanner’s usability by allowing mobile workers to scan multiple documents directly to their smartphones and tablets quickly and conveniently via the CaptureOnTouch Mobile app.

The imageFORMULAP-208 includes runtime controls supporting EMC Captiva Cloud, which enables enterprises, software vendors and value added resellers to develop customised, web-based scanning applications and solutions by Captiva Cloud Tool kit that provide better support for their customers’ workflows. A Software Development Kit is also available giving partners theunique opportunity to seamlessly connect their own solution with the embedded CaptureOnTouch Lite software or bundled CaptureOnTouch software.

The imageFORMULA P-208 will be available through all Canon sales offices and selected distributor partners across Europe from January 2013.
