More BlackBerry Jam developer sessions coming to SA

BlackBerry® is to host a new series of BlackBerry® Jam Sessions for the African developer community, starting in South Africa in March. The sessions will take place in Cape Town on 25 March and in Pretoria on 26 March, giving developers a chance for more hands-on experience with the range of development tools available for the BlackBerry® platform.

These events follow on the massive success of last year’s BlackBerry® Jam Sessions and Hackathons. Since the BlackBerry 10 Jam Developer sessions began in May 2012, BlackBerry hosted 44 Jam sessions, in 37 countries with more than 9,300 attendees. Over 300 developers attended the BlackBerry 10 Jam events in South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya in 2012.

This year’s Jam Sessions are open to all developers working on the BlackBerry platform (including OS7), but are especially designed for developers that are new to the BlackBerry 10 platform. The sessions will provide plenty of practical advice and some great hints and tips to help them make the most of the BlackBerry® 10 development environment.

There will be hands-on training sessions that focus on the BlackBerry® Cascades software development kit and the WebWorks HTML5 development tools. The Cascade framework empowers developers to develop visual and engaging applications for BlackBerry 10, while WebWorks makes it simple to take advantage of standard web technologies like CSS, HTML5, and JavaScript to build your application.

BlackBerry technical experts will be on hand to answer developer questions and provide them with the latest best practice from BlackBerry.

The sessions will take place at the South African BlackBerry apps labs (BlackBerry Authorised Academic Centres) at the University of Pretoria and at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town.
