Growth of business recycling in GAuteng fuels employment in green economy sector

The demand for paper recycling services in Gauteng has grown significantly due to an increased environmental consciousness amongst businesses. This is presenting employment opportunities in the green economy sector, which is in line with Edna Molewa, Minister of Environmental Affairs’ promise made in 2012 that the green economy will create 300 000 jobs by 2020.

According to Dorota Boltman, Divisional Director of Rainbow Paper Management – a group company of JSE-listed Metrofile Holdings Limited, the increased awareness among businesses about the environmental importance and business benefits of recycling has contributed to a vast growth in the amount of incoming waste paper at the company.

She says in order to cater for this surge, the company has appointed new staff, purchased new baling equipment and the amount of paper being recycled each month has increased by 1300% since the company’s inception in 1995.“In addition to this, Rainbow Paper Management has reaffirmed its commitment to the upliftment of staff by enrolling two staff members in college to study Human Resources Management and Bookkeeping.”

At Rainbow Paper Management, we continuously forecast growth in order to meet the demands of our clients’ paper recycling requirements, says Boltman. “Through this expansion, the company is now able to host more staff members to cater for our current and future clients’ growing needs.”
