Ruckus takes market lead in service provider Wi-Fi according to latest Dell’Oro Group Report
Doubles Service Provider Customer Base in 2013 and Grabs Top Share of the Worldwide Service Provider Market in Q4 2013 in Both Revenue and Unit Shipments
Ruckus Wireless, Inc. (NYSE: RKUS) have announced that it has been recognised as the worldwide market share leader in both unit shipments and revenue in the category of enterprise-class and outdoor mesh Wi-Fi access points for Service Providers, according to the latest (4Q13) Wireless LAN (WLAN) Report published by Dell’Oro Group.
According to the Dell’Oro Group Report, Ruckus took the lead in the worldwide Service Provider Wi-Fi market segment in 4Q13 by garnering a 35.8% share of the market relative to unit shipments, and a 25% share of the market relative to manufacturing revenue.
Comparing 4Q13 to the prior quarter, Ruckus was one of the largest revenue share gainers in the Service Provider (SP) Category, posting the strongest quarterly revenue and unit shipment growth among all SP wireless infrastructure vendors with a 28% gain in total worldwide revenue for Service Provider Wi-Fi and over a 33.5% gain in total worldwide Service Provider Wi-Fi unit shipments from 3Q13 to 4Q13. In 2013, Ruckus effectively doubled its customer base of service providers since 2012, finishing the year with over 140 customers.
This growth was fuelled by strong demand for both indoor and outdoor carrier-class Smart Wi-Fi infrastructure solutions to address rising data traffic volumes, driven by more users with more Wi-Fi-embedded devices running more bandwidth munching applications.
According to the Report, the total worldwide market revenues for wireless LANs during 4Q13 grew to nearly $2.2B (USD), equating to 9% growth year over year compared to 4Q12, of which $1.1B (USD) was in the Enterprise-class plus outdoor market category. Overall total WLAN market unit shipments reached nearly 30 million in 4Q13 alone, growing 15% year over year compared to 4Q12. Full year 2013 WLAN market revenues were $8.5 billion, growing nearly 13% year over year compared to 2012, representing nearly 113 million total WLAN market unit shipments.
The Dell’Oro Group report also noted that “in 4Q13, Ruckus saw significant growth across its entire enterprise and service provider customer base, adding 3,100 new customers to bring its total to over 33,000, and has begun taking revenue on its SmartCell Gateway (SCG).” The Ruckus SCG is one of the industry’s only carrier-class WLAN controllers, which is used by Service Providers to manage tens of thousands of Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi access points and enable multi-tenancy capabilities.
