XDSL chooses Connection Telecom’s managed TELVIVA IP PBX technology to bring unified communications cost and tech advantages – including mobile phone calls over WiFi
XDSL, the Internet service provider subsidiary of the JSE-listed ConvergeNet Group, has expanded its communications platform with Connection Telecom’s Telviva managed hosted IP PBX service.
XDSL is known for its strength in the DSL and wireless space, running a smooth, customer-centric operation. In an ongoing drive to provide important value-add services to its customers, XDSL’s new implementation of Telviva will complement its DSL offering by adding IP PBX (carrier-class voice telephony over data networks) capabilities to its DSL implementations. By unifying their voice and data networks, XDSL’s 6500 business customers will be able to save up to 40% of their telecoms infrastructure expenses, while cutting call costs and getting access to many advanced features on their telephone systems.
Telviva also enables XDSL to offer its customers a powerful VoIP solution for their staff using mobile phones. Because Telviva is a converged platform that is able to register SIP clients (a protocol supported by any modern IP-capable telephony device) on its network, users with VoIP applications installed on their cell phones will be able to call their offices at virtually no cost within XDSL’s WiFi area, which covers the Gauteng region. Business associates or friends connected via the XDSL network will benefit from mobile VoIP by paying 15c per minute for their on-net calls.
Says Danie Fourie of XDSL, which is also a wholesale reseller partner of Connection Telecom: “The Telviva platform from Connection Telecom offers greater control with more functionality at a lower total cost of ownership with a short period to get up and running. By allowing customers to connect to our network with their mobile phones, using VoIP technology, XDSL can present business customers with an attractive new service offering that brings convenience and major cost savings.”
Two ConvergeNet companies have already joined the XDSL network, namely the Sizwe Africa IT Group and Navix Distribution.
Says Dave Meintjes, managing director of Connection Telecom: “Around 60% of companies’ telecoms spending is on the high-cost GSM side, with only 10% of spending on the low-cost on-net calls side. Telviva helps XDSL’s customers drive down their costs by moving calls from the expensive GSM network to a managed IP layer that provides the benefit of the intelligent call routing. Having more companies move calls on-net to our data network also opens up new virtual markets in the Telviva community, where more and more companies can now connect without passing through the incumbent operators.”
A new report from Juniper Research, ‘Mobile Voice Strategies: mVoIP Opportunities and Business Models, 2010-2015’, predicts mobile VoIP minutes will double each year for the next five years, rising from 15 billion minutes in 2010 to 470.6 billion by 2015.
Concludes Meintjes: “The Telviva offers a fully managed service with the required skills to offer peace of mind. Our long-term vision of building a large-scale national on-net enterprise VoIP market means we are committed to partnering businesses to increase their voice traffic over lowest cost quality routes.”
