Domains.co.za has become the first South African Registrar to introduce a FREE Domain Transfer Lock for all customers with .co.za, .org.za, .net.za, and .web.za domain names.

This essential security feature adds an extra layer of protection to prevent unauthorised domain transfers and safeguard against domain hijacking — all at no additional cost.

As cyber threats continue to rise, poorly secured digital assets are increasingly targeted by malicious actors. One of the most serious of these threats is domain hijacking.

Domain hijacking is when a domain is unlawfully taken over.

This can result in website traffic being redirected, sensitive data being compromised, or even financial loss.

But for many businesses, the most devastating impact is the reputational damage.

Until recently, domain locking was only available for international domain extensions.

However, a recent update by the ZA Registry Consortium (ZARC) now enables this important security tool for South African .za domains, including .co.za, .org.za, .net.za, and .web.za.

Domains.co.za is proud to be the first Registrar in the country to offer this protection to its customers.

Why Domain Transfer Lock matters:

How it works:

  • Users can log into the Domains.co.za Client Portal to easily activate or deactivate the lock as needed.
  • Once enabled, the lock will automatically block any transfer requests unless manually removed by the domain owner.

Domains.co.za has rolled out Domain Transfer Lock automatically on all active and new .co.za, .org.za, .net.za, and .web.za domains, excluding those already in the transfer process.

This forward-thinking move is just one of the ways Domains.co.za continues to protect South African businesses, entrepreneurs, SMEs, and individuals online.
