Local software developer DVT has been appointed a value-added reseller for Axosoft’s OnTime project management software for Agile and scrum software development. The deal was signed early in February 2013, and makes DVT the first OnTime reseller in Africa.

“This is a landmark agreement for us because it meets such a strong market need,” says Melani French, who will be leading DVT’s OnTime business unit. “Today’s highly competitive, fast-moving business environment requires software development that is rapid and accurate—driving a move towards Agile. But, until now, we have lacked a project management tool that is both robust and flexible enough to manage the Agile environment. OnTime plugs the gap—perfectly.”

Hamid Shjojaee, founder and CEO of Axosoft says, “As demand for Axosoft’s Agile project management software grows in South Africa, we are pleased to partner with DVT as a value-added reseller. DVT’s focus on Agile software development ensures that together we can provide our mutual customers with a top-notch experience.”

Ms French says that OnTime offers visibility across the entire development process, enabling close collaboration between widely dispersed teams. Among other functionalities, it makes it easy for project managers to manage resources effectively.

“OnTime lowers the costs of software development by reducing the effort for project managers and optimising the use of resources. A more tightly managed software process results in on-time delivery of software that is fit for purpose,” Ms French adds. “I have not yet met with a client who does not immediately want it!”

Dr Jaco van der Merwe, managing director of DVT for the Gauteng region, says that OnTime complements DVT’s overall offering to the market in several respects. OnTime is already being used by DVT in its own software development processes and can now be offered in tandem to DVT’s consulting services to clients undertaking their own software development. “DVT understands the challenges of software development and how OnTime has helped our internal teams—that means we can help our clients’ software-development teams use it to deliver better software more quickly,” he says.

OnTime complements DVT’s enterprise mobile solutions capability—it’s one of the very few project management tools that enable project members and stakeholders to retain visibility of all aspects of the development process even while they are outside of the office.

A further benefit for DVT’s clients is that DVT can integrate OnTime into other tools used in the broader client environment. This is a crucial functionality because it helps ensure that the newly developed software will work within the context of the client’s total ecosystem.

“OnTime is quick and cost-effective to implement, it’s easy to use and is highly customisable in line with Agile’s innate flexibility,” Ms French concludes. “It can also be offered using the software-as-a-service model, giving clients the option of paying according to use with no upfront costs. I am excited by OnTime’s potential to make a beneficial impact on the South African software development industry.”
