When one of the UK’s major law enforcement agencies embarked on a digital transformation journey to modernise its service, Inspired Testing was engaged to take the journey with them.
This large police force needed an agile, effective solution that could grow and adapt with them.
It needed to support a host of adjacent functions, from investigation management and intelligence gathering to police records and prosecutions.
Assurance of exceptional and reliable performance was critical to ensure high adoption of the solution throughout the agency’s 35 000-strong workforce.
The digital transformation also needed to enable the agency to operate in a flexible, modern way, enhancing crime-fighting capabilities through efficient police time management and reduced costs.
For the Inspired Testing team, the pillar of this transformation was a mobile-centric core policing solution.
Comprehensive and tailored testing was essential to ensure no technical downtime or system failures would occur in situations where prompt response times could mean the difference between life and death.
“Partnering with one of the UK’s largest police forces on their digital transformation journey is both an honour and a responsibility we take very seriously,” says Lesley Higgins, Managing Executive at Inspired Testing.
“Our goal is to ensure that the technology supporting critical policing activities is robust, reliable, and ready to perform under pressure, enhancing both public safety and operational efficiency.”
The solution will be used across many roles. It relies on a central database to manage crime events and retrieve crucial information promptly, while also integrating into other government bodies, including Interpol and other intelligence agencies.
The officers and the public need to be confident that the solution is robust, resilient, and secure.
In addition, failure to demonstrate performance could hinder the adoption of the new system.
While the police force did undertake in-house testing, there was also an urgent need for independent verification to ensure the system could perform seamlessly in real-world conditions.
Inspired Testing rose to the challenge and provided comprehensive performance testing to validate the system’s performance under high user loads in the long-term.
This performance testing included Peak Tests, Stress Tests, Soak Tests, Data Extraction, Technology Stack, and Tricentis NeoLoad.
The client was already using Tricentis NeoLoad as its performance testing tool of choice, and as Inspired Testing is the only UK-based NeoLoad premier partner, it’s well suited to assist with the additional resourcing and training skills needed.
Meticulous evaluation of performance requirements, robust performance testing environments, and governance frameworks formed just a small part of the overall task.
The Inspired Testing team also developed a suite of performance test scripts tailored to validate every aspect of the application’s functionality.
Rigorous performance test scenarios that thoroughly analysed results to identify any potential performance bottlenecks or areas for improvement were executed.
The independent verification of the application performance mitigated the risk the force faced if it did not perform seamlessly under real-world conditions.
They received actionable insights and recommendations to optimise response times and reliability under varying workload conditions.
This is an ongoing project, but the police force has already experienced several benefits from this digital transformation, including improved operational efficiency, enhanced public safety, increased productivity, cost savings, and reputation management.
