CloudSmiths CEO Jason Timm
CloudSmiths, a Dynamic Technologies group company, has been a proud Salesforce partner for 10 years.
Jason Timm, founder and CEO of CloudSmiths, recognised Salesforce’s potential when they first entered the South African market, and thanks to his enthusiasm and determination, the partnership has grown from strength to strength.
Timm built the business from the ground up, engaging with customers to develop Salesforce-powered solutions that met their needs. His approach is collaborative and inclusive and he remains an active force in the business.
Part of his success, and that of CloudSmiths, is Timm’s inspiring leadership. He sees his role as creating the right conditions for people to excel, knowing that with a good team he can set a clear direction and then step back, allowing them to take ownership.
Early in his career he learnt that leadership isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about asking the right questions and working together to come up with innovative and effective solutions.
“I try to keep that mindset today,” says Timm. “Leadership is about balance. Being approachable while setting high expectations, offering support but giving people the space to surprise you. The best results often come when people feel trusted to take risks and know that you’ve got their back if they need it.”
Timm reflected on the past 10 years and discussed what it takes to build and maintain one of the preeminent Salesforce partnerships in South Africa and the UK.
How did it all begin?
It started when Salesforce was still relatively new in South Africa. We saw the potential of cloud-based CRM from the start and jumped in to help local businesses make the shift. Over time, the relationship has grown.
A big turning point was our merger with DotModus in 2022. It brought data and AI into the mix and with it, new possibilities. We’re now able to offer much more sophisticated solutions. It’s always been about creating a real impact for our clients, and I think that’s what’s kept the partnership so strong.
What makes the CloudSmiths-Salesforce partnership so successful?
At its core, it’s shared values: being innovative, working together, and focusing on what the customer needs. Salesforce gives us a fantastic platform to build on, and we bring local knowledge and hands-on experience to make it work for clients. Together, we’ve helped businesses improve customer engagement and operational efficiency. It’s a real win-win.
Are there other partnerships that complement this collaboration?
Absolutely. We work closely with Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, and Asana, and those partnerships are key. Businesses rarely rely on just one platform these days, so having these connections allows us to offer more integrated, flexible solutions. It’s about solving problems holistically and unlocking opportunities that wouldn’t be possible with just one tool.
What role does the CloudSmiths team play in driving this success?
The team is everything. We have developers building custom solutions, consultants making sure implementations run smoothly, and everyone in between bringing their best. That mix of expertise, creativity, and collaboration makes what we do possible. Without the team, none of this would happen.
What does it mean to you to be part of the CloudSmiths team and this partnership?
It’s incredibly rewarding. Every project we deliver helps businesses work smarter and improves the experience for their customers. Knowing that the work we do, especially when it comes to Salesforce, helps businesses offer a better service to their customers is a real motivator.
It goes beyond technology. We’re making a tangible difference to how businesses connect with and serve their own customers. That’s something we’re all proud to be part of.
What’s your vision for CloudSmiths’ future?
We want to stay ahead of the curve. Generative AI and AI in general is a big area of focus, especially with Salesforce’s Agentforce.
It’s about finding practical ways to use these tools (automating tasks, solving challenges, and making life easier for businesses). That’s where we’re heading, and it’s exciting to see what’s possible.
