Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, confirmed that once again, Huawei GSM-R solution has been selected by the Turkish State Railways (Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları, TCDD) to support on the construction of a modernised railway communication network for the Alsancak-Cumaovası-Torbalı-Tepeköy railway project, contributing to the technological advancement and improvement of the efficiency of national railway operations. The contract marks another breakthrough in the Turkish market by Huawei following the Eskisehir-Alayunt-Kutahya-Balikesir project and underlines Huawei’s strength on seamless interoperation with multiple vendors and to swiftly deliver complex European Railway Transportation Management System (ERTMS) projects in Turkey and around the globe.
TCDD’s Alsancak-Cumaovası-Torbalı-Tepeköy railway line is located near to Turkey’s western port in Izmir. A phased roll-out of this line will commence promptly and will conclude with a total length of 188 km connecting the cities of Bergama and Selcuk. In order to meet the European Train Control System, level 2 (ETCS L2) signal system requirement at a speed of 250 km/h, Huawei has designed a GSM-R solution which adopts an advanced and innovative distributed base stations model that interoperates with the existing core network infrastructure provided by a Finnish vendor. With E2E System Redundancy, Huawei GSM-R solution is the most reliable in industry and the only one that supports future evolution to LTE for rail technology. Phased roll-out of the project will commence shortly and upon completion, the railway line will largely enhance interconnectivity between different cities and boost economic development in western Turkey.
“Over the past 10 years, Huawei has grown to become a leading innovator of communications solutions for the transportation sector, Huawei is committed to providing safe, reliable, scalable and sustainable network infrastructure for our railway customers as well as serving local community and promoting regional development,” said David Xu, General Manager of Huawei Enterprise Wireless Product Field. “Seamlessly integrating in the industry ecosystem, Huawei works closely with partners and customers to deliver communication infrastructures that will not only meet today’s demands but also integrate with future technological advancements. For instance, Huawei GSM-R solution supports the evolution to LTE, which is expected to safeguard customers’ technology investment over 15 years.”
Huawei has been committed to GSM-R technologies since 2002 and has established worldwide leadership in the creation of communication networks that integrate reliable railway information services, systems and software applications into a single ICT system. Leading the GSM-R market and successfully servicing global railway customers, Huawei has achieved 61% market share in the overseas GSM-R market in 2012 by new contract value and its GSM-R solution has been deployed along 13,000 km railway lines worldwide as of 1Q 2013.
