Today’s consumers are becoming more socially conscious and demanding that the brands they invest in do the same. LG is one such brand that is listening to the voice of its customers. The electronics brand is focused on not only having eco-conscious appliances but also on being energy efficient in everything that they do.

One of LG’s efforts towards this goal is their recently launched Switch On campaign, which focuses on bringing awareness to consumers about being energy efficient. The campaign aims to highlight energy-saving tips, as well as educate consumers on what certain energy ratings mean, the advantage of green appliances and why it’s important to be energy efficient.

LG’s ranges of appliances are all rated internationally according to the Energy Star rating system. The more stars an appliance has, the more energy efficient that particular product is. In South Africa, they’re rated according to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). Products are rated from A (being the most energy efficient) to G (being the least), with some appliances boasting a double or even triple A rating.

LG’s fridges, such as the Door-in-Door fridge, recently received the world’s first Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits in the appliance industry, from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project encouraged by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. What makes LG’s Door-in-Door fridge so special is that it runs using Inverter Linear Compressor technology. This technology enables LG’s fridges to save anything from 8 percent to 17 percent in energy. This means they’re able to provide freshness for longer, lower noise levels, bigger capacity and durability.

LG’s energy efficient efforts don’t just stop there; they also have the SolarDOM microwave oven. The SolarDOM is equipped with a Charcoal Lighting Heater, which enables food to absorb the heat faster and deeper, meaning it will be brown and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The SolarDOM is able to save up to 30% on time and 20% on energy thanks to its “No Preheating” process. Fitted with a Bottom Grill, the SolarDOM provides the same quality as that of a normal oven, because it provides heat from not only the back but from the bottom as well.

When it comes to washing the dishes, most dishwashers have three cycles (prewash, main wash, intermediate rinse and a drying cycle), which affect the amount of time and energy the dishwasher runs for and energy it uses. LG offers consumers a dishwasher that runs using True Steam technology, which means no pre-wash is required, resulting in saved energy and water.

LG’s front loader washing machines are another great example of their energy efficient efforts. These washing machines come with an A+++ rating due to the Direct Drive motor. The motor, which is connected directly behind the drum, reduces noise and friction. This means that there is less wear and tear and less electricity usage. While the unit is running, the motor creates enough current to continue running the unit, which helps with energy saving.

The running costs of your home appliances add up over time and have a large impact on your electricity bill. It’s been estimated that energy efficient appliances can help save up to 30% each month. Buying one of LG’s products is a great step towards a more eco-conscious lifestyle that’s friendly on your wallet as well.
