MDM supports local charities to improve the lives of children
Times are tough – the cost of everyday commodities is increasing. This makes it extremely challenging for organisations to provide funds to charities who require the assistance. However, we can all make a difference and donating even a small amount to various charities can make a big difference in many lives.
Children of South Africa benefit immensely from various charities, allowing them to go to school with full tummies and have a roof over their heads. This can assist to give a child a brighter future and improve their living conditions.
“Despite a tough economic climate, organisations should prioritise their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) spend, irrespective of whether they are large or small businesses, as the impact of it is far reaching. We at MDM support a number of charities with contributions to improve the lives of children in particular. We have chosen these charities as children are our future and deserve an equal opportunity in life. Although smaller business are feeling financial pressure sometimes more acutely that their larger counterparts, making small contributions to a number of charities can assist improve the lives of a number of children,” says Gary Allemann, MD of Master Data Management.
Some of MDM’s chosen beneficiaries include:
AAAKEE
AAAKEE (Abused and Abandoned Kids Educational Excursions), offer six care centres in Gauteng to assist under 850 underprivileged, abused, abandoned, mentally / physically handicapped and HIV+ children. MDM provided financial donations to assist as they receive no funding from government and rely solely on money from organisations and the public. The monies go towards food, active education and a uniform fund. AAAKEE also started a new initiative for a care centre called New Beginningz which requires support. New Beginningz houses 103 babies and children.
“We are urgently looking for sponsorship for babies. It costs R960 per month for each baby which allows us to provide them with milk, nappies, purity, inoculations and cover their early childhood development. Even with a small financial contribution, you can make a note-worthy difference,” says Charne Booysen from AAAKEE.
Abraham Kriel Children’s Home
The Abraham Kriel Children’s Home requires R5000 per month per child. The Department of Social Development subsidises the home with R2500 per child per month, which leaves a short fall. Sponsorship is allocated to the running of the home, the purchase of food, clothes and electricity amongst other things. However, if people are not able to assist financially, they can get involved with our guest parent program. This program allows them to take children for holidays/weekends. This program requires a screening process by a social worker.
The Mentors program run by Abraham Kriel Children’s Home allows people to get involved with a specific child of their choice. They contribute on a monthly basis towards the care of that child. The Mentors program allows individuals to make a difference in a child’s life by calling them, taking them on an outing or buying them a present for Christmas or their birthday. This allows the child to feel like they belong as many of these children have no one in their lives. This small token can make a big difference in a child’s life,” says Gerda van der Merwe from Abraham Kriel Children’s Home.
Concludes Allemann: “We can all make a difference in these children’s lives – whether financially or with our time. During these tough economic times, if we all pull together, we can brighten up the lives of those less fortunate in South Africa and provide them with a future deserved by all. Be the one to make a difference.”
