As of September this year Datameer, the proven self-service big data insights platform for rapid data discovery, announced their go-to-market collaboration with Microsoft. Now, Microsoft will offer Datameer’s big data analytics on Azure HDInsight, in Q4 2015.

“We believe that Hadoop-as-a-Service will lower the barrier to entry for business users who want to work with data,” said Stefan Groschupf, CEO of Datameer. “Our collaborative solution with a trusted company like Microsoft will further help companies that can’t afford the complexity of on-premises solutions.”

Sitting natively on the powerful Hadoop platform, Datameer extends existing Azure HDInsight capabilities by facilitating quick integration, preparation and analysis of all structured and unstructured data. Datameer’s self-service functionality and familiar spreadsheet interface reduces the complexity of big data technology and dramatically accelerates time to insight. This pairing will provide downstream benefits to other Microsoft cloud offerings.

Whilst we are not at the development stages of International counterparts when it comes to the governance of big data, it is time to start the planning and implementation processes. Gary Allemann of Master Data management adds, “While big data is in an early stage of adoption in South Africa, companies in retail, financial services and telecommunications are definitely beginning to deliver projects. Being able to analyse big data on Azure HDInsight will only streamline this process.”

“We’re excited to be working with ISV’s like Datameer to provide our customers with leading data management applications on Azure HDInsight,” said Tiffany Wissner, senior director of data platform product marketing at Microsoft. “Our goal is to make it easy to get started with big data, while also providing the scalability and elasticity of Microsoft Azure. Datameer’s solution will give our customers another choice for quick insight.” This relationship lowers the barriers to entering into big data for Microsoft clients both by proving a Cloud based option to reduce overheads and complexity, and by making data preparation and analysis on Hadoop quick and easy.
