MDM offers training on Metadata Management and Data Modelling
By Gary Allemann, MD at Master data management
Metadata management has expanded well beyond data modelling in recent years. As the importance of data and information continues to grow, so the importance of metadata – accurate and available documentation and information about this data – will continue to grow. Metadata summarises basic information about data, ranging from where it is stored, to how it is used, to who has access to it.
Metadata describes both structured and unstructured information making it critical to successful analytics, as well as an enabler for master data management, data quality and data governance.
Adequate metadata helps data architects and analysts to understand the impact of proposed system changes, and helps the BI team to create consistent and trusted reports. It also helps data stewards to track and manage data risks and issues.
“Metadata management is becoming increasingly relevant as businesses embark on imperatives to deliver trusted data for compliance and for data driven decision making. Disciplines such as data architecture, business intelligence, data integration and, increasingly, data stewardship, all have a dependency on accurate metadata. This highlights the importance of understanding metadata and data modelling. Having deeper insight into these capabilities are crucial for professionals pursuing these types of careers,” says Gary Allemann, MD at Master Data Management,
