Further democratising big data analytics by making traditionally complex tasks easy, Master Data Management (MDM) partner, Datameer, recently unveiled Datameer 6 to enable a new class of data-driven business analysts. Datameer 6 introduces an elegant new front end that reinvents the entire user experience, making the previously linear steps of data integration, preparation, analytics and visualisation a single, fluid interaction. Shifts in context, tools or teams are no longer required every time a data change is needed saving both time and cost over traditional analytic workflows.

Datameer 6 also introduces the addition of Spark to its patent-pending Smart Execution technology, which intelligently selects the best processing framework for every single job while abstracting complexity from the end user. This addition ensures the fastest processing time, every time and allows the user to focus on the business problem at hand, instead of the underlying technology.

“It’s not enough to just get data analytics in the hands of business users — it has to be extremely easy to use,” says Stefan Groschupf, CEO of Datameer. “The user experience has to engage them with their work and the goals of the company and the back end needs to handle all of the heavy lifting while removing the technical complexity. We’re bringing both to the market with Datameer 6.”

Next-Generation Analytics Workflow for Uninterrupted Data Discovery

According to Gartner, the shift to the modern BI and analytics platform has now reached a tipping point. Organisations must transition to easy-to-use, fast and agile modern BI platforms to create business value from deeper insights into diverse data sources.*

As a modern business intelligence platform, Datameer is leveraging smart data discovery to transform complex, technical processes with easy-to-use point-and-click functionality. Building on this goal of simplification, Datameer 6 gives fluidity to the entire self-service analytics workflow between data integration, preparation, analytics and visualisation in a single screen. By not requiring technical skills or the need for specialised tools, citizen data scientists are empowered to get the answers they need from their data.

“Big data adoption in Southern Africa is inhibited due to a lack of Hadoop and other specialized big data skills,” says Gary Allemann, MD of Master Data Management. “Datameer removes this complexity to allow business analysts and managers to quickly and easily access and analyse complex data, understand the impact of data and calculation changes, and answer previously unanswerable questions.”

Traditionally, the analytics process requires either specialised tools for each step that depend on different users and skill sets, or end-to-end-tools that require sequential workflows. Either approach can make for a long, uncoordinated, and often frustrating user experience that ultimately delays time to insight as potential new data quality and consistency issues may go unnoticed until the last step of visualisation.

By seamlessly toggling between different phases of the workflow and with visualisation at every step of analysis, users can freely approach data discovery with a checks and balance approach by instantly seeing the effects of changes made. This rapid, iterative approach to analysis gives business analysts a comprehensive view of their projects, increasing productivity and further shortening time to insight.

Future-Proof and Flexible Architecture for Optimised Performance

Datameer was purpose-built to have an open architecture that can quickly and easily incorporate new processing engines as they become enterprise-ready, so customers can leverage the best of the big data ecosystem. With Datameer 6, Datameer is further expanding its Smart Execution technology with the addition of Apache Spark, which frees users from having to determine what compute framework is optimal for their various big data analytics jobs by automatically optimising performance across both small and large data. Datameer 6 simplifies the complexity of Spark so users don’t have to learn the necessary programming in order to take full advantage of its processing capabilities.

“Big data investments need to cater for the evolving nature of the Hadoop ecosystem,” says Allemann.  “Datameer Smart Execution with Spark ensures that each processing job is run on the best possible engine without you having to make complex technical choices. This means analysts can focus on finding insights, rather than on writing and maintaining code.”

Analytics are optimised behind the scenes so business users get new insights faster without needing to navigate technical complexities. This degree of flexibility ensures the best possible performance for processing individual analytic workloads and protects customers’ investment in their big data architecture.

Incorporating multiple engines provides users with a one-stop-shop for a wide variety of analytical situations, and can scale for the multitude and variety of analytic processing needs that enterprise customers face.
