The winners of the 10th annual South African eCommerce Awards have been announced, with Takealot.com named as SA’s favourite eCommerce website.

The awards recognise South African websites that have demonstrated excellence in their use of the Internet as a platform for eCommerce.

That is, any South African based company that facilitates the buying or selling of products via the internet including the ordering and electronic payment thereof.

From over 200 entrants the Top 50 was announced after a stringent evaluation process. These 50 websites then underwent a second round of evaluation to determine the winners and runners up of the various categories.

The 2015 South African eCommerce Awards following winners offer exactly that:

The winner of South Africa’s Favourite eCommerce Website was determined by a round of public voting that yielded over 90,000 votes, with takealot.com receiving the most public votes.

The eCommerce market in South Africa is now estimated to be worth over R6 billion, with consumers demanding user-friendly websites, secure online payments, fast and cheap delivery and outstanding customer service.

“The eCommerce Awards is an important event for a growing and exciting industry,” says Hilton Eachus from DPD Laser.

“It’s hard to argue that eCommerce doesn’t have an important part to play in the future of South African retail and even harder to argue with the growth we’ve seen in the industry.”

The Awards ceremony was hosted by uAfrica.com, in partnership with DPD Laser, PayFast, Nedbank and Shopify Plus.
