Imagine a whole new driving experience, connected to the world around you – this is Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM), and it’s already a reality in Nissan cars you can drive today.
They can park themselves, watch what’s happening around you, and step in to keep you out of trouble.
Now imagine a near future with cars that can actually learn from one another and EVs that recharge as they drive along, no strings attached.
Nissan is committed to making transportation safer, smarter, and more enjoyable, with the ultimate goal of achieving zero-emissions and zero-fatalities on the road, and Nissan Intelligent Mobility is the roadmap.
Guided by the vision of mobility for all, Nissan is implementing these innovations by bringing them from luxury segments to compact high volume models and ensuring everyone has access to the benefits.
“Nissan is testing advanced autonomous driving on public roads today, which means this revolutionary driving experience is within reach,” says Wonga Mesytwa, Nissan SA Director for Corporate Affairs.
“Technology is meant to make your life easier and to compliment your lifestyle, and this is what motor vehicles will achieve going into the future.”
The new Nissan LEAF, which sports NIM technology has won its first major international award at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) the Best of Innovation awards for 2018.
As confirmation of Nissan’s leading investment in innovation, the Nissan LEAF 100% electric vehicle with ProPILOT and e-Pedal technologies took the following honours:
- CES Best of Innovation award winner for Vehicle Intelligence and Self-Driving Technology
- CES honoree for Tech for a Better World
With NIM technologies, Nissan LEAF shares some of the driving tasks so you can let go of stress and enjoy the ride, and ProPILOT automatically keeps pace with the flow of traffic, transforming your morning commute into a pleasant way to start the day.
Activate ProPILOT to let your car automatically follow the car ahead at a preset distance and keep you centred in your lane (even around a gentle curve).
ProPILOT can even bring your car to a full stop based on the traffic flow, then take it back up to speed when traffic moves again.
NIM makes easy work of tight parking spots too, and you can just push the ProPILOT Park button and let your car take control of steering, acceleration, braking, and shifting to automatically manoeuvre into a parking spot.
Many Nissans are already equipped with technologies that look out for you, monitor the situation, and in some cases even step in to save the day.
The new Nissan LEAF will potentially be coming to South Africa in 2018, says Patience Dumisani, Nissan SA Senior Manager, Product Communications.
“We’re still discussing the business case with our parent company in Japan, but during the course of 2018 we should be able to announce when the new Nissan LEAF will be coming to Africa,” she said.
Meanwhile, Nissan’s NIM technology is available in the currently available Nissan X-Trail and will also be available in the soon-to-be-launched Nissan Patrol.
