With the growth in cloud applications, digital solutions and IoT, the demand for high quality data networks continues to flourish. Previously available in only 1G (SFP) and 10G (SFP+) versions standard with LC type fibre connectors, Netshield has in the last month expanded its range to include both 40G and 100G Transceiver modules, all of which can be used to integrate seamlessly with any distribution, access switch and other networking equipment that has the appropriate transceiver slots. As the company’s SFP compatibles are hardware agnostic they will interface with switches that include HP, Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent or Avaya, and more.

With the inclusion of the 40G and 100G transceiver solutions, now in what is widely known as Quad Small Form-Factor Pluggable (QSFP/QSFP28) compatible modules, customers are also able to take advantage of super-high-density/speed and low-power Gigabit Ethernet connectivity options. Applications extend to data centres, enterprise core and distribution/access layers, high-performance computing networks as well as connectivity applications needed by service provider.

Because a transceiver module can easily be interchanged, network administrators can now dramatically simplify the process of upgrading or maintaining an electro-optical or fibre optic network as a result of the fact that the actual pluggable module isn’t hardwired into the network or the switch. Furthermore, with the enhanced version of the SFP range boasting DOM monitoring capabilities, they are able to alert when there are potential connectivity and quality of connectivity issues on the network, as well as pinpoint where the problem is, without the need to unravel the entire network to locate.

In the case of the compatible transceiver modules, with particular reference to the 40G and 100G compatible transceiver modules, customers can make use of the module’s ability to interconnect short haul core connections with ether active (fibre) and passive (copper) preconfigured cables, preconfigure splitter/multiplexing optiona are also available – with the most common being 40G QSFP to four prewired SFP+ 10G transceivers. Other options allow for, through lower speed bidirectional wave division multiplexing, improved multiplexing of a number of optical carrier signals onto a single optical fibre by using different wavelengths.
