Why It Matters
According to the CSIR’s national survey results on the state of cybersecurity in South Africa, these findings paint a clear and urgent picture: South African organisations are facing a relentless wave of cyber threats, often under-resourced and underprepared. Here are four facts from the research:
1. Cyberattacks are widespread:
47% of South African organisations reported experiencing between one and five cyber incidents in just the past year—proof that the threat is not only real, but recurring.
2. Breaches are the norm, not the exception:
A staggering 88% of businesses suffered at least one security breach, and 90% of those were hit again—highlighting the persistent vulnerabilities in local networks.
3. Workforce awareness is dangerously low:
Only 32% of companies have trained more than half of their employees in cybersecurity best practices, leaving the majority exposed to avoidable threats like phishing and malware.
4. Threat monitoring is inconsistent despite high attack volumes:
With South Africa seeing over 20 million cyberattacks monthly, it’s alarming that only 41% of organisations monitor threats daily leaving many blind to incoming risks.
Reflex’s Managed Cybersecurity offering is built to mitigate these and/or other cybersecurity risks, leveraging Arctic Wolfs expertise and global reach to provide a holistic view on current and zero-day Cybersecurity attacks”, says Unathi Mothiba, Technical Product Manager, Reflex Enterprise.

What Is an Incident Response Plan?
In today’s threat landscape, it’s not a question of if your business will face a cyber incident, it’s when. An Incident Response Plan (IRP) is your business’s battle-ready blueprint for what to do when that moment arrives.
It lays out clear steps to identify, contain, eliminate, and recover from cyber threats, minimising damage and downtime.
