As a Diamond partner of the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 held in Versailles (France) Schneider Electric sponsored the winning team of the competition.
The Italian team “Rhome” with its project “Rhome for Density” won the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 by accumulating 840 points in the 10 tests of the competition. The second and third places were respectively won by the French team “Atlantic Challenge” for “Phileas” project (France) and the Dutch team “Delft” for “A Home With A Skin” project. The prototypes were measured continuously using sensors installed in each room which enabled ranking of the teams for three of the tests (energy balance, functioning of the house, comfort conditions). The teams were also judged by six international panels made up of the best experts in each fields (communication and social awareness; planning, transport and economic accessibility; architecture; engineering and construction; energy efficiency; sustainable development). Finally, the six panels judged the projects based on their innovative nature.
During the 18 months ahead of the competition, Schneider Electric actively supported “Rhome For DenCity” project and”Phileas” project by bringing its technologies and advice. The Group provided solutions for energy management, power generation for solar panels, lighting control automation systems, cabling and electrical distribution solutions, as well as technical support and team training.
“We would like to congratulate the Italian team for this well-deserved recognition and also the French team and all the other participants for their commitment, the quality and creativity of their work, said Luc Rémont, President of Schneider Electric France. Once again, a project supported by Schneider Electric won the Solar Decathlon. That recognized our technological know-how and the strong involvement of our employees.”
Over the 15 days of the competition, La Cité du Soleil welcomed over 100 000 visitors. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, 17 of the 20 houses had a positive energy balance which indicates the true quality of the projects.
For this European edition of the Solar Decathlon, Schneider Electric supports 13 of the 20 competing projects. As a partner of the Solar Decathlon since 2007, Schneider Electric will be working alongside the organizers and participants again for the upcoming American and European editions in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
