Syntech, the South African IT distributor, has announced the launch of the groundbreaking OCZ Vector SSD at a Cape Town-based breakfast event in February.

OCZ announced the availability of its new SATA III-based Vector SSD Series featuring the company’s next-generation Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller in November last year. OCZ’s worldwide technology hardware and firmware teams developed the new controller silicon and firmware completely in-house to enable full design control over the Vector SSD Series roadmap, while delivering exceptional I/O performance, enhanced reliability and endurance, and a host of differentiated features to empower high performance laptops, desktops, and workstations with superior storage capabilities

What is a SSD?
A SSD (Solid State Drive) behaves like a hard drive, with a few important notes. Firstly, a SSD has no components or mechanical parts. It uses sophisticated flash memory technology, but retains all data even when the computer is switched off. SSDs are exceptionally quick compared to standard hard drives. Generally, a SSD will outlast a hard drive by a significant length of time, and is very difficult to break.

OCZ Vector SSDs provide exceptional input/output operations per second (IOPS) performance and the cutting-edge Barefoot 3 controller consistently delivers superior sustained performance over time regardless of whether the data streams are in compressed or uncompressed formats. As a result, this groundbreaking SSD series provides faster file transfers and boot-ups, and a quicker, more responsive storage experience.

Ryan Martyn, a director of Syntech, said “The Vector SSD delivers sustained performance, and Syntech is proud to be affiliated with OCZ. We look forward to the opportunity to launch the Vector in South Africa, to a select group of resellers.”

Established in 2002, Syntech’s comprehensive inventory list enables resellers and retailers to procure all of their PC, Apple and CCTV hardware from one source, with a focus on professional storage and high performance products such as Thecus, ATTO, Sonnet, G-Tech and SanDisk, amongst others.
