Is artificial intelligence going to take over the world?
It’s a topic that I’ve been thinking about deeply over the past few months, ever since ChatGPT was launched. I am one of those technology fanatics who loves new developments in the tech space. I dove straight into ChatGPT when it first came out, and I’m still revelling at the magic trick that it performs in taking the static information that it has been fed and using it to think outside the box.
Sure, it’s not always right. Some of the information that it spouts ends up being mumbo jumbo that isn’t correct and doesn’t make much sense when analysed. But imagine the potential hidden within it! Imagine what is going to happen when that static information that it’s been fed is replaced with information that shifts and changes day by day. Imagine how much it will learn, and how much potential it will hold to change our lives.
When I think of uses for ChatGPT, my mind immediately goes to those chatbots that you find on so many sites these days. You know the ones – you ask a question, and they redirect you to a relevant FAQ page. Only, 90% of the time, the page isn’t actually relevant, because there are limited FAQ pages, and unlimited problems that people visiting the page may come across.
Now imagine what those chatbots would be like if they were truly artificially intelligent. If they had access to all the queries that your teams deal with on a day-to-day basis, and are able to absorb the responses and process them, providing visitors to your website with assistance based on those answers instead of just relying on the content that sits on your site.
This is where I see artificial intelligence heading. I see it gathering absurd amounts of knowledge that is unique to your business, and providing the support that your clients and customers need. And businesses are going to buy into that prospect, because at the end of the day, an IT professional’s time is an expensive commodity. If technology can perform the same task of troubleshooting at a fraction of the cost, it is going to become standard procedure.
But in a world like this, where does an IT services provider fit in? If you are able to get all of the support and answers that you need to every question that you have about your technology, then is there a role for a company like Solid Systems, the company that my business partner and I founded two decades ago?
The answer is unequivocally YES. As technologists, our value doesn’t lie in simply troubleshooting or offering the kind of IT support that could ever be managed by artificial intelligence. I genuinely cannot wait for the day to come when users are able to find the solution to their technology problems at the click of a button. Because our real value shines when we are helping businesses to put tools in place that see them helping themselves.
We plan for the future, we help businesses to operate in a more efficient, and yet more human way. We work with you to gain a deep understanding of your challenges, your technology needs, and we then find the right solutions that will see you exceeding your goals. But our job doesn’t end with implementation. It extends to training and adoption, because the only way to change behaviour, the only way that people are going to not just gain knowledge, but incorporate it into their routines, is by being shown how to. And AI is never going to achieve the kind of connection that humans can.
Is artificial intelligence going to take over the world? I think it’s inevitable that AI is going to become a commodity for businesses globally. The real question is how are we as Managed IT Service providers going to adapt to this changing technical landscape?
At Solid Systems, we truly believe that the answer lies in securing and supporting technology enabled businesses through a human centric partnership. Because, when it comes down to it, our value as a company is elevating human connection to make a difference in people’s lives.
