Performance increased on T2 Plus processors

Sun increases performance on server line

The dedicated Sun division at Workgroup, Horizon, has announced that Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu have enhanced the performance and virtualisation capabilities of their chip multi-threaded (CMT) SPARC Enterprise server lines with the addition of 1.6GHz UltraSPARC T2 and T2 Plus processors.

The CMT servers with Solaris make it easy for customers to economise in the data centre without sacrificing performance of efficiency, says Bradley McCulloch, sales and marketing manager at Horizon.

“The servers and OS deliver increased performance, scalability and reliability with built-in virtualisations capabilities at no additional cost,” he adds. “Combining new 1.6GHz UltraSPARC T2 and T2 Plus processors with new Logical Domains (LDoms) 1.2 software provides additional virtualisation and compute performance, simplifying management, reducing I/O bottlenecks and accelerating application response time.”

LDoms 1.2 software, combined with the latest Solaris OS release, delivers new features, including built-in configuration tools, CPU power management, domain mobility, built-in recovery and a physical-to-virtual migration tool.
